About O'BJ - Barbara "BJ" Andrews, The Breeder

Sharing background isn't about ego.  (I've been told I have more than enough of that.) It's about how important quality is to you.  If you're willing to put up with this non-conventional website, it's a good indication that you are determined to do it right.  That's important whether you're thinking about a Toy Fox Terrier as a family pet or a show dog.

Thanks to the internet, we no longer need to spend hours trying to figure each other out.  You can click out right now or learn more about what makes a healthy, breed-typical Toy Fox Terrier and what we have to offer.  It's up to you.  I'll try to make it as painless as possible but for a minute, I'll let the webmaster take over.

Bill and Barbara Andrews married in 1956, had three gifted children, performance horses, and Obedience Dobermans.  In 1966 they became Charter Members of the American Rottweiler Club and by 1968, from only two litters, their foundation bitch Ch. Asgard Anna, had become the Top Producing Dam and she published the first Rottweiler Handbooks.

Their first Akita was in 1972.  Their wisely chosen foundation bitches were 3/4 sisters from Bob Campbell.  Both became easy champions and Register Of Merit dams.  They waited a year for a compatible male puppy from Bob and bred him to their two bitches.  Ch. Sachmo became the top sire of All Working Breeds.  Ch. Ko-Go is still tied with Ch. Hatter (a third generation O'BJ homebred) as the #1 Akita dam of all Time. 

Bill and BJ Andrews set and still hold most of the All-Time Records including over half of the Top AKC Winners and Register Of Merit Producers.  Akitas O'BJ is the foundation bloodline for most of the top Akita kennels in the western world.

BJ published the Akita Handbooks in 1973 and was the founder of the Register Of Merit system which is now used by many other national breed clubs. 

They fell in love with Bull Terriers in 1980 and subsequently imported the first-ever English Champion Miniature Bull Terrier and a Junior Warrant Winner from England.  Barbara founded the national MBTCA and as President, moved the breed to AKC status.  From three litters, they produced top-winning Group and Specialty winners. 

The Andrews were mentored in Chihuahuas by Dan Greenwald and in 2001 Bill and Dan campaigned Ch. Rialto to become the #2 Top Smooth Chihuahua in breed history.  By 2002, two homebred O'BJ Chihuahuas were Group and Specialty winners and ranked in the national Top Twenty.

Toy Fox Terriers joined the Andrews home in 2001 and fit them like a glove.  The O'BJ  breeding formula, renowned for a consistently high percentage of AKC champions-per-litter, was applied to a small Toy Fox Terrier breeding program.

Bill (deceased) and BJ always owner-handled their dogs.  Barbara has authored seven full color breed books, including Chihuahuas, Miniature Bull Terriers, and the coffee-table edition, World Of The Akita, nominated for Breed Book Of The Year.
